EM343: The personalized medical and rehabilitation approach to the patient with Parkinson's disease

Parkinson's disease is an extrapyramidal and neurodegenerative syndrome and is the most frequent movement disorder. In recent years there has been a constant increase in the incidence with increasingly earlier onset. The expression of this pathology resulting from the interaction of motor and non-motor symptoms can be extremely variable and make patient management very complex. An ever-growing number of scientific studies testify to the effectiveness of multidisciplinary management so that early diagnosis, correct pharmacological management and "tailor-made" rehabilitation treatment are effective in managing symptoms and improving quality of life. This conference aims to be an opportunity for highly experienced researchers, doctors and rehabilitators to meet and discuss, to present an example in the care of Parkinson's patients.

Prof. Giladi is the chairman of the Neurological Institute at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center – Ichilov. He is a full professor, the incumbent of Sieratzki Chair of Neurology, Director of the Aufzien Center for Treatment and Prevention of Parkinson's disease at Sackler School of Medicine, Sagol School of Neurosciences in Tel Aviv University.

The main areas of interest are walking disorders, balance/fall risk, diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease and Parkinsonism. He also deals with other movement disorders such as dystonia and chorea and the relationship between cognitive, emotional, motor aspects and the side effects of antipsychotics. Over the past decade he has led many studies on the genetics of Parkinson's disease and collaborated in the development of many pharmacological therapies and non-medical interventions. His focus is on accurate diagnosis and the determination of a targeted therapeutic project to improve the quality of life of neurological patients.

Dr. Giuseppe Frazzitta – Specialist in Neurology, Director and founder of the MIRT ParkProject, expert in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's, Advisor to the National Board of the Hospital Neuroscience Society and Head of the Neurorehabilitation group.

During his 30 years of clinical experience he was able to deepen the efficacy of a multidisciplinary and rehabilitative management of patients with Parkinson's Disease, publishing many articles on the subject in the most important international journals.

Director of the Complex Structure of the Parkinson's and Severe Brain Injury Rehabilitation Division at the Moriggia-Pelascini Hospital from 2013 to 2019, he then founded the MIRT ParkProject with the aim of connecting specialized rehabilitation centers in Italy to treat Parkinson’s patients with a multidisciplinary, rehabilitative, intensive approach.

Alba Magri, Physiotherapist and IBITA Instructor (International Bobath Instructors Training Association), has gained thirty years of clinical experience in management of adult patients with acquired neurological lesion and in the last years has explored the rehabilitative approach to patients with Parkinson's Disease. She is an expert in the clinical application of the Bobath Concept and divides her working time between managing patients with different neurological conditions and teaching postgraduate specialization courses. She collaborates with some Italian Universities in teaching curricular courses and Neurorehabilitation Masters
