Parkinson’s disease is one of the most prevalent neurodegenerative extrapyramidal disorders within the spectrum of movement disorders. Its incidence continues to rise, with an increasingly earlier age of onset being observed. The clinical complexity of the disease, resulting from the interaction between motor and non-motor symptoms, requires an integrated and highly individualized approach to care.
In light of these considerations, this conference aims to provide a structured, multidisciplinary update closely aligned with the scientific programme. The first session will explore the pathophysiological and neurobiological mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease, examining the role of dopamine not only in movement disorders but also in psychiatric comorbidities and addiction. It will also address exercise-induced neuroplasticity and the neurophysiology of gait. In addition, innovative topics such as the use of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) will be discussed, alongside often overlooked yet highly relevant issues, including the social stigma associated with Parkinson’s disease and the contribution of aquatic therapy to the rehabilitation pathway.
The second session will focus on specific rehabilitation interventions, including physiotherapy and movement rehabilitation, hand rehabilitation, and speech and language therapy. Particular attention will be given to the importance of targeted and individualized interventions throughout the different stages of the disease.
Finally, the third session will provide an opportunity for practical discussion through the presentation of clinical video cases from several specialized centres, with the aim of integrating theoretical knowledge with real-world clinical experience.
This event therefore represents an important opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange among experts from different fields, fostering the development of increasingly effective, patient-centred diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitation pathways.
