The importance of physical exercise is widely recognized worldwide not only as a preventive strategy, but also as an effective treatment for various pathologies, to the point that the term "exercise is medicine" has been coined.
Currently, in fact, pathologies such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and cancer are constantly increasing, an indicator of the fact that it is necessary to search for new intervention strategies. Scientific research has shown that exercise can positively affect the health of patients suffering from various diseases, including cancer. Furthermore, physical exercise is able to improve muscle strength, physical function, the cardiovascular system and possible related disorders (e.g., osteoporosis and sarcopenia).
Physical exercise, like a medicine, needs its precise dosage to induce benefits. This course analyzes the principles of training to adapt them to specific clinical conditions in the patient, with a particular focus on the cancer patient.
The practical part will allow you to try out the different forms of exercise currently used in rehabilitation in patients suffering from pathologies, including resistance and aerobic training, and understand their appropriate use.
The principles of self-regulation and load administration based on the stage and/or type of the disease will then be analysed. Collectively, therefore, this workshop will enable participants to design detailed exercise-is-medicine-based exercise programs specific to various diseases, including cancer, and related comorbidities.
